This report highlights public perceptions about air pollution and its health impacts in Jakarta, Indonesia, where in 2022 the city’s average annual PM2.5 concentration levels exceeded the World Health Organization’s air quality guidelines. The study—which also includes evaluation of current community-based initiatives targeted at reducing exposure to air pollution—surveyed 400 individuals accessing the city’s Public Health Centers. In-depth interviews were also undertaken with the heads of ten Public Health Centers.
The report provides a nuanced understanding of air pollution awareness in Jakarta, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions to translate awareness into meaningful actions to protect health and reduce pollution levels. Findings were used as the baseline for the development of communication strategies and guidelines for health education and promotion materials.
